We just got back from fishing the Nanticoke River this past Saturday. We launched at 5:30 am on a high tide from the Sharpstown ramp. The weather was beautiful with the air temps in the 80's. Our winner for this event was James Bywaters with one of only two limits of bass caught for the day. His winning weight was 6.14 lbs. James also brought in the days biggest bass weighing 1.14 lbs. Not a big bag by most standards, but as anyone knows who has fished the Nanticoke thats not that bad at all. He reported catching his bass on a Paca Craw in natural colors and a Manns Baby Minus crankbait (color not mentioned) with the numbers coming on the Paca Craw. James mentioned that he was turned on to this pattern by his co-angler for the day Nelson Mejia, who by the way was the only other angler to bring in a limit. They were fishing in the Seaford, Delaware area of the river fishing current breaks in less than 2 feet of water. Finishing in second place was Nelson Mejia with a limit weighing in at 5.15 lbs. Nelson caught all of his bass on the Paca Craw also. Nelson said " I caught bass all day and was culling early, but could not get the big bite". Coming in 3rd was John Hansen with a weight of 3.15 lbs edging out Arrie Byers by a mere 1 oz. John was also fishing the Seaford, Delaware area of the river. John reported catching his bass on a Manns Baby Minus crankbait and also a Strike King jig (colors not mentioned). John caught alot of bass but only could manage 4 keeper bass. Everyone caught alot of bass on the Nanticoke but most were small. This is usually a disappointment but if you look at it this way those are juvenile bass that will be the future 3 to 4 pounders. The Nanticoke in my opinion is making a come back. Everyone one once again did a great job on the water and came in safe. Great job to all and congratulations to James on his first win of the year.
